SILENT BOOK CLUB OF DEATH

Learn more about Silent Book Club of Death, which I founded with Be Present Care, Heavenly Mist Death Doula, and The Death Deck. Our closing event, Last Call, was held in August 2024 in North Hollywood, though we will host pop up events in the future.

Silent Book Club of Death Brooklyn is hosted monthly in different venues.

Silent Book Club of Death Buffalo NY is hosted monthly by Acupunktrix. Their next event is November 2024.

Queer Grief Club hosted a monthly Silent Book Club of Death PDX in Portland Oregon.

In Silicon Valley, Palo Alto City Library hosted a monthly death positive Silent Book Club.

I hosted a bilingual pop up Silent Book Club of Death Warsaw Poland in June 2023.

The Colorado End of Life Collaborative hosted a pop up Silent Book Club of Death in Denver July 2023.

Altadena Main Public Library hosted a pop up Silent Book Club of Death in Altadena CA in July 2023, and again in June 2024.

I hosted a virtual, global Silent Book Club of Death in July 2023.

There was a pop up Silent Book Club of Death in Sedona AZ in February 2024.

I co-hosted a pop up Silent Book Club of Death in Washington DC in May 2024.

I co-organized a Summer Death Picnic with a Silent Book Club of Death Brooklyn and Your Morbid Friends in NYC in June 2024.

In concert with Larkspur Conservation Natural Burial, I hosted a pop up Silent Book Club of Death in Nashville TN in November 2023; another will occur December 2024.

DEATH POSITIVE EVENTS IN POLAND / ŚMIERĆ PO POLSKU

I hosted two death positive events in Poland, in Polish and English, June 2023: Silent Book Club of Death Warsaw, and a Death Positive Game Night with Instytut Dobrej Smierci.

I hosted an immigrant grief discussion (with a focus on Slavic, post Soviet diaspora) named A jak umrę, pochowajcie / Як загину поховайте in Chicago (September 2024).

DEATH AND TAXES WEEK

In mid April 2023, I hosted Death and Taxes Week - a week of death positive events focused on end of life preparation. Read more about our Death Positive Game Night, Silent Book Club of Death, and National Healthcare Decisions Day Paperwork Party Potluck.

Death and Taxes Week 2024 involved a Silent Book Club of Death and National Healthcare Decisions Day Paperwork Party with an attorney, funeral director, death doulas and social workers, art making, and two on site notaries, hosted at the Studio Death Doula LA space. GLOBAL SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

With Mortician in the Kitchen, I hosted a Global Summer Reading Challenge in June 2024, a Summer Reading Club of Death: read about death / dying / grief / aging anywhere in the world, post about it, receive stickers and bookmarks in the mail. Participants read in different languages and countries around the globe, fiction and nonfiction, books for children and adults, in a variety of genres.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS

I have presented and facilitated discussion with community groups about death positivity and End of Life preparation nationwide, including in person at Altadena Public Library (July 2023 and October 2023) and Palo Alto City Library (September 2023).

I’ve presented virtually on End of Life preparation as care work, including at Gabrielle Elise Jimenez of The Hospice Heart’s Hospice Masterclass (June 2023). I spoke on Loving End of Life preparation at Death Doula Days at Historic Congressional Cemetery in DC over Zoom (December 2023).

I’ve hosted in person community events like a Golden Girls themed Mortality Mixer around Betty White’s 101st birthday (January 2023), a conversation with LA Contemporary Archive about preserving your artistic legacy through death planning and artist archives (February 2024), and an immigrant grief discussion (September 2024).

I’ve tabled at community events like LA Art Book Fair at MOCA (August 2023), A Life Well Lived (October 2023), the Culver City Book Festival at the Wende Museum (June 2024), and Morbid Anatomy’s Memento Mori Festival at the Philosophical Research Society (September 2024).

In September 2024, during Folsom Street Fair’s Leather Week, I co-hosted a webinar with Cianna of Dying Kindness and Courtney of C.King Solutions on Death Aftercare: Being Kind to the Ones We’ll Leave Behind - a death planning event for those in alternative lifestyles.

In October 2024, I co-facilitated a Death Game Night at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn NYC with Silent Book Club of Death Brooklyn and The Death Deck.

In October 2024, I led TalkDeathDaily’s Cemetery Scavenger Hunt in Burbank CA.
